An 1800 sq.ft. G+1 net-positive energy smart house integrating architectural design with advanced engineering systems — a modular, prefabricated residential solution designed for rapid 14-day deployment, with strong emphasis on energy efficiency, sustainability, and occupant comfort.
Project Solarise was Team SHUNYA's entry to the Solar Decathlon China 2018 Build Challenge, held in Dezhou — China's Solar Valley. The project involved the design and construction of an 1800 sq.ft. G+1 net-positive energy smart house that integrated architectural design with advanced engineering systems.
Conceived as a modular and scalable residential solution, the building was engineered for rapid deployment within just 14 days using simplified, prefabricated construction systems — without compromising on performance, comfort, or sustainability.
The project was supported by prominent industry partners including Reliance Industries, Waaree Energy Systems, L&T Electrical and Automation, and others — earning Team SHUNYA the Best Participant Award at Solar Decathlon China 2018.
Integration of solar energy systems with efficient energy management to generate more energy than the building consumes, actively contributing clean power back to the grid.
Designed for rapid deployment within 14 days using simplified, prefabricated engineering systems — enabling a scalable and replicable residential solution.
100% recycled material with a traditional jali design enables passive cooling and intelligent daylight control, reducing solar heat gain while maintaining visual connection with the outdoors.
Integrated rainwater harvesting, greywater and blackwater recycling, and efficient fixtures drastically reduce freshwater consumption and manage waste responsibly on-site.
Rooftop photovoltaic panels generate clean electricity throughout the day, sized to exceed the building's total energy demand.
Intelligent controller balances generation, storage, and loads in real time — optimising across HVAC, appliances, and the EV charger based on demand and weather.
Energy powers the building, HVAC waste heat is recovered for clothes drying, and any surplus is exported back to the grid.
Solar energy systems are integrated with intelligent energy management to ensure the building generates a surplus beyond its own consumption, feeding clean power back into the grid.
Simplified engineering systems designed for full assembly within 14 days — a scalable, replicable residential model that lowers build complexity without sacrificing performance.
A façade built from 100% recycled material incorporating a traditional jali pattern provides passive cooling, natural daylight diffusion, and reduced heat gain across all seasons.
Effective cross ventilation and thermal design significantly reduce dependence on active cooling systems, lowering energy loads and improving year-round occupant comfort.
A quiet, efficient HVAC system with optimised thermal comfort is paired with a hybrid waste heat recovery system — hot exhaust air is redirected to a dedicated clothes-drying zone at zero additional energy cost.
Rainwater harvesting, greywater and blackwater recycling, and efficient fixtures are combined with corrosion-resistant material coatings suitable for coastal environments, ensuring long-term durability.
